On the airfield
- Approach centerline
White barrettes on the extended centerline, up to 900 m before the threshold. The pilot picks up the line before seeing the runway.
- Approach crossbar
A bar of lights across the centerline 300 m before the threshold; it shows wings-level and remaining distance.
- Sequenced flashers (SFL / RTIL)
Flashers racing toward the threshold twice a second (the “rabbit”). In fog they are the first lights a pilot sees.
- Frangible masts
Aluminium approach, ILS and weather masts that break away on impact without damaging the aircraft.
